Easy Ways to Make Your House More Eco-Friendly

Switch over to eco friendly products

Take a look in your kitchen, your bathroom, your room- how many things in there are plastic? Probably a lot, but for most of those plastic things, there’s an even better non-plastic alternative! All those plastic shampoo and conditioner bottles, your toothbrush, hairbrush, and so on, can be replaced by an alternative that doesn’t use plastic. In my other blog post, I give some specific examples and suggestions of better alternatives.

Compost!

You may already have a compost bin, or something similar, but if not, its definitely time you get one. All those old banana peels, egg shells, and any other kind of food waste, can be composted. Instead of throwing that in the trash, where it will most likely end up in a landfill, you can compost it! There are many benefits to composting. 1 - it prevents food waste from ending up in a landfill, 2- its actually good for the soil!

More plants

Whether inside or outside the house, plants are good everywhere! Incorporating more nature into your house is an excellent idea. They also look great as decorations. So its time to ditch those fake plants, and start getting some real ones!

Conserve water

As simple as this one may sound, it is still so important. Doing things as simple as not leaving the water running while brushing your teeth, and even just trying to take faster showers can help a lot.

Heating and cooling

Another important aspect is conserving energy. Simple things such as turning down the heat at night in the winter, or opening the windows in the summer can help. I’m not saying you have to completely ditch the heaters and AC, but if there’s something else you could do, do it!
